This release provides 2011 Census estimates of the number of usual residents and the number of households with at least one usual resident, for postcodes, census output areas, data zones and inhabited islands in Scotland. The estimates relate to census day, 27 March 2011.

They show among other things that:

• The number of people living on inhabited islands was 103,702 which represents 2 per cent of the population of Scotland
• 50 islands saw an increase in population between 2001 and 2011, 43 islands saw a decrease and 7 islands had no change to their recorded population
