This rebranded Code of Practice sets out the powers and duties conferred or imposed under Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (ISBN 0105423009) relating to the lawful interception of communications. It gives guidance to intelligence agencies and others on warrants and the disclosure, copying, retention and other safeguards necessary for materials obtained through warranted interception.

Primarily intended for those public authorities able to apply for the issue of an interception warrant and those listed in Section 6 (2) of the Act, the Code will also be informative to communications service providers' staff involved in the lawful interception of communications and others interested in the conduct of lawful interception of communications.
