Approved regulatory guidance (sixth edition) documenting the general principles as required by the Regulations known as CHIP 4. Addressed to manufacturers, importers and other suppliers with such responsibilities concerning dangerous substances and preparations and closely follows the European Commission's labelling guide (Annex VI to Directive 67/548/EEC).

The revisions reflect: the introduction of European regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures; also the effect of Directive 2006/121/EC, which amends Annex VI of the list of substances with harmonised classifications and labels, established in direct-acting Community legislation; and the transfer of substantive provisions relating to safety data sheets to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation (REACH).
