UN ADR 2009 List of changes

This Agreement which aims at increasing the safety of international transport by road, deals with the conditions of transport of dangerous goods (including dangerous wastes) by road.

Transporting dangerous goods by road is a potentially hazardous environmental issue. ADR—European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road clearly presents the very latest legislation applicable from 1st January 2009 for international transport, with a six month transitional period, and on 1 July 2009 for domestic traffic for member States of the European Union.

The list of changes affects nearly all parts of the ADR including:

New provisions concerning procedures and administrative controls for conformity assessment and periodic inspection of pressure receptacles and tanks

New provisions for the classification of environmentally hazardous substances

New UN entries including new entries for fuel cell cartridges

Revised packaging requirements for various substances

Revised marking provisions for environmentally hazardous substances

New requirements as regards the use of standards for non UN pressure receptacles, tanks, MEGCs and battery vehicles

Changes to the general provisions concerning loading, unloading and handling

Revised provisions concerning the restrictions for the passage of vehicles through road tunnels.
