Covert Human Intelligence Sources Code of Practice provides guidance and rules on authorisations for the use or conduct of covert human intelligence sources under Part 2 of the Regulations of Investigatory Powers Act 2000

The code sets out the authorisation procedures to be followed for the grant, review, renewal and cancellation of authorisations and for the management of sources, as well as special rules for authorisations in respect of confidential and legally privileged information or juvenile sources.

The Code is aimed primarily at members of public authorities involved in making applications for the grant of authorisations and those persons designated to grant authorisations.

Covert Human Intelligence Sources Code of Practice Features:

Provides guidance on the use or the conduct of covert human intelligence sources.
Contains both general and special rules on authorisations
Contains full list of authorisation levels needed for the use of juveniles or vulnerable individuals as sources

Replaces 'Covert Human Intelligence Sources Code of Practice' (ISBN 9780113412853) issued in 2002 and becomes effective on 6th April 2010.
