The standard includes requirements for the cutting and bending of, reinforcing bars and coils. It also specifies the requirements for, scheduling fabricated reinforcing steels, including a standard notation, for different reinforcing steel types, standard bent shapes, and, standard designations of welded fabric. Standard forms of bar and fabric, schedules are given.
BS 8666:2005 specifies requirements for the scheduling, dimensioning, bending, and cutting of steel for the reinforcement of concrete conforming to BS 4449:2005, BS 4483:2005 and BS 6744, designed to BS EN 1992-1-1, BS EN 1992-2, BS EN 1992-3 and BS 8110.
The standard incorporates: shape codes available under BS EN ISO 3766:2003
revised notation in accordance with BS 4449:2005 and BS EN 10080:2005
revisions to BS 4449:2005 (including the omission of grade 250 and grade 460 reinforcement), BS 4482:2005 and BS 4483:2005
the provisions of BS EN 1992-1-1 (including the preclusion of wire to BS 4482:2004 for use for structural purposes)
electronic data files
revisions to fabrication and routine inspection.
BS 8666:2005 replaces BS 4466:1989 which is withdrawn.
