There were exceptional weather conditions in 2007, notably flooding in June and July 2007 in Yorkshire and the Humberside, East Midlands, West Midlands and in the South East. Where there was severe flooding, crops and by-products such as straw were generally written off; where the flooding was less severe, yield and quality were adversely affected, especially where there were harvesting problems and delays.

More generally, wet weather during the summer, when rainfall was over 150 per cent of normal levels, caused widespread levels of disease, especially potato blight and root rot in peas, increased lodging in cereals and beans, and delays in harvesting, especially of vining peas.
